3 students killed in wall collapse at school in Tamil Nadu’s Thirunelveli

Thirunelveli, Dec 17, 2021: Three students were killed and four were injured after a toilet wall collapsed on them at a private school in Tamil Nadu’s Thirunelveli district on Friday.

The children were students of the Schaffter Higher Secondary school. They allegedly came under the toilet wall when it collapsed, the school said in a notice.

Police officials and rescue teams are already at the spot. The district collector is on his way to the spot.

The notice states that Anbazhagan (class 9), Vishwa Ranjan (class 8), and Suthesh (class 6) have been identified as the three children killed in the incident. The injured students have been identified as Sanjay (class 8), Isaki Prakash (class 9), Sheikh Abubakar Kidani (class 12) and Abdulla (class 7).

Chief Minister MK Stalin extended his condolences to the families of victims and announced Rs 10 lakh as compensation to each of the three deceased students’ families.

The state government will also provide Rs 3 lakh to the families whose injured students.


Meanwhile, state School Education Minister Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi called the incident as unfortunate and ordered an immediate inspection in all the schools.
