Mumbai, August 3 : 30 people have been rescued by the Mumbai Coast Guard after distress calls from a ship that was sinking. Some people who had jumped off the ship into the sea in a panic have also been saved.
Panama flagged merchant vessel, MV Rak Carrier, sent its SOS this morning, after some parts of it were flooded. The ship was on its way from Indonesia to Dahej, Gujarat.
The Coast Guard sent rescue boats and helicopters to transfer the 30 crew members of the Rak onto another boat. The Indian navy also sent a ship to help out.
The Rak was loaded with coal.
