Nashik, Nov 15: At least seven person has died and 50 others seriously injured as eight coaches of Hazrat Nizamuddin-Ernakulam Mangala Express derailed this morning between Ghoti and Igatpuri stations, 30 km away from Nashik in Maharashtra.
The incident took place at 6:25 am on Friday about 100 kms from Nashik when the train was travelling from Ernakulam in Kerala to Nizamuddin, Delhi.
The injured have been rushed to Ghoti, Kasara and Nashik civil hospitals, while rescue operations were in progress, police added.
The reason of the derailment is yet to be ascertained.
Following the mishap, rail-traffic on the up side was affected, forcing railway authorities to cancel various trains, including Manmad-Kurla-Godavari Express and Manmad-Mumbai Panchavati Express. Also, Sevagram Express and Rajya Rani Express were halted at Lasalgaon.
