Bengaluru, Nov 20, 2023: The Bangalore Electricity Supply Company Limited (Bescom) has suspended five of its officials for negligence and issued show-cause notices to two senior officers after a mother and daughter died due to electrocution in Bengaluru.
On Sunday, 23-year-old Soundarya and her nine-month-old daughter Leela came into contact with a live 11 KV wire that had fallen on the footpath at Hope Farm Signal and got electrocuted around 5:30 am.
Karnataka Energy Minister KJ George took note of the fatal accident and ordered the suspension of the officials involved.
The Bescom on Sunday suspended five officials from the power supply department -- Assistant Executive Engineer Subramanya T, Assistant Engineer Chetan S, Junior Engineer Rajanna, Junior Powerman Manjunath Revanna, and Lineman Basavaraju -- for negligence. A detailed investigation into the matter will be conducted.
The city electricity board has issued show-cause notices to Lokesh Babu, Superintending Engineer of the East Circle and Sriramu, Executive Engineer of the Whitefield division, and asked them to submit their responses to the notices within three days.
An FIR was registered in connection with the matter.
