Vehicles began to pile up on the border since 12.30 AM when MCD men started collecting environment tax. While some drivers protested against the move, some didn’t have the amount to be paid as a result drivers decided to park on the main Delhi-Jaipur road resulting in a massive jam.

The strech between Sirhaul toll plaza and Rajiv Chowk in Gurgaon was packed with vehicles till Saturday morning. Senior traffic officials from Gurgaon and Delhi reached the spot to make alternate arrangement to divert the vehicles. Slow moving traffic was reported till the filing of this report.

Taking note of the large number of commercial vehicles entering Delhi everyday, the  National Green Tribunal had imposed an "environmental compensation charge" over and above the municipal toll tax in October.

For commercial vehicles entering Delhi, an extra charge of Rs 700 would be charged from those with 2 axles (taxis and small trucks) and Rs 1,000 would be charged from those with three axles and Rs 500 would be charged from vehicles with 4 axles and above (large truck-trailers), the NGT had said in its order.
