Ranchi, Jan 11, 2024: An 85-year-old woman from Jharkhand’s Dhanbad, an unwavering devotee of Lord Ram, is set to break her 30-year-long ’maun vrat’ (vow of silence) after the consecration of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya on January 22. The woman had taken a vow of silence following the demolition of the disputed structure in the early 1990s.
The octogenarian, Saraswati Devi, residing in Karmatand village in Dhanbad has maintained an absolute silence since the early 1990s, expressing her devotion to Lord Ram and her fervent desire for the construction of the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya.
Saraswati Devi has pledged to speak only after the completion of the Ram Temple and the consecration of Ram Lalla in its premises.
Though she took a break from ’maun vrat’ and spoke for an hour at noon every day till 2020, she went completely silent the day the foundation for the temple was laid by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Her decision to break her vow of silence has filled her family with joy, anticipation, and excitement. The family eagerly awaits the moment when they will hear her voice.
Notably, the Ram Temple trust has sent a special invitation to Saraswati Devi, popularly known as ’Mauni Mata’ (silent mother), and her family to attend the grand consecration ceremony.
Scribbling on a piece of paper, Devi shared that during her vow of silence, she visited Ayodhya, Kashi, Mathura, Tirupati Balaji, and Baba Baidyanath Dham, spending years in devotion to Lord Ram.
Considering the invitation as a divine call from Ram Lala, Sarswati Devi is determined to break her silence with the chanting of Lord Ram’s name.
She has also expressed admiration for Narendra Modi and Yogi Adityanath, referring to the Prime Minister as ’Dasrath’ (Lord Ram’s father) and the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister as ’Vasistha’ (a saint in Ramayana).
The family was also proud to have been invited to attend the Pran Prathistha ceremony, considering it a moment of great honor and fulfillment for Sarswati Devi’s lifelong devotion and sacrifice.
