New Delhi, April 23, 2015: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Thursday announced a compensation of Rs.10 lakh to the family of a Rajasthan farmer who had committed suicide a day earlier.
Gajendra Singh, a farmer from Rajasthan, hanged himself from a tree during an AAP rally in Jantar Mantar in New Delhi on Wednesday.
AAP leader Sanjay Singh blamed Delhi Police for the death. He said that police failed to intervene despite repeated appeals from AAP leaders.
"The truth of what happened (yesterday) is captured on your cameras. The way the police acted was insensitive and incompetent," IANS quoted Singh as saying.
AAP had called the farmers’ rally to denounce the government’s land ordinance.
