New Delhi, Jan 30, 2020: Aam Aadmi Party(AAP) has hit out at the Bharatiya Janata Party(BJP) over the Jamia incident and has demanded the resignation of Home Minister Amit Shah.
A man named Gopal allegedly shot a protesting student of Jamia Millia Islamia at an anti-CAA protest at Jamia area in Delhi on Thursday.
AAP member Sanjay Singh said, "BJP is fearing defeat in the upcoming polls in Delhi and is spoiling the atmosphere."
"The Delhi Police would have taken action but Home Minister Amit Shah has tied their hands. This is Amit Shah’s conspiracy to remove the Arvind Kejriwal government," he added.
AAP leader Amanatullah Khan also said that BJP is losing the Delhi assembly elections and that is why it is getting such things done. He said the accused Gopal belongs to BJP.
The incident took place when protesters, including students of Jamia Millia Islamia, were marching towards Rajghat to hold a protest against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and National Register of Citizens.
The attacker allegedly shouted ’who wants azadi’ before opening fire at the protest rally. "Kisko chahiye azadi? Main dunga azadi [Who wants freedom? I will give freedom]," he reportedly said.
The accused has been taken into custody. He has identified himself as Gopal. The police are yet to confirm his claim. The injured student, meanwhile, has been identified as Shadab Najar, a student of Jamia Millia’s Mass Communication and Research Centre. He has been rushed to Holy Family Hospital in Jamia area.
