Aarushi’s father attacked with knife at court

Mr Talwar was taken by his lawyers to hospital, his right cheek was bleeding profusely. His attacker - a young man - was beaten up by angry lawyers before he was taken into custody. The court complex is now being heavily guarded.

Mr Talwar’s 13-year-old daughter, Aarushi, was murdered at her home in Noida in May 2008. Her family’s domestic help, Hemraj, was discovered dead on the terrace a few hours later.

Unconfirmed reports suggest that the young man who attacked Talwar is named Utsav Sharma and had also attacked SPS Rathore who was arrested for molesting teenager Ruchika Girhotra. In February 2010, Utsav had slashed Mr Rathore’s face with a pocket knife outside a Chandigarh court. At that time, he had been described as psychologically disturbed by the police.

The CBI has been arguing in court that it should be allowed to close its investigation into the Aarushi case because  it has not found enough evidence to charge anyone with her murder.    However, the agency has listed Rajesh, a dentist, as its only suspect.  Many legal experts have described this as character assassination.

Rajesh, a dentist, was arrested a week after his daughter’s death by the Noida police. He was released close to three months later after the CBI admitted it had no evidence against him.

Mr Talwar was in court today to argue that the CBI should not abandon its investigation and that its conclusions are incorrect.

He, like his wife Nupur, has been put through brain-mapping and lie detector tests as part of the CBI’s inquiry.
