Umesh Pal was shot dead by an unidentified man while he was getting out of the backseat of a Hyundai Creta SUV in Prayagraj. Pal was rushed to Swaroop Rani Nehru Hospital, where he succumbed during treatment. Pal’s autopsy report revealed that he was shot seven times.

Following the murder, Umesh Pal’s wife Jaya Pal approached Prayagraj police and filed an FIR. A case under relevant sections of the IPC and Explosives Act was registered against former MP Atiq Ahmed’s brother, wife Sahista Praveen and his sons Ahzaan and Abaan and several others.

BJP leader Rahil Hasan’s brother Ghulam has been named in the murder case of Umesh Pal, following which he was removed from the saffron party.

Raju Pal was murdered months after winning the Allahabad (West) assembly seat, in his electoral debut, by defeating former MP Atiq Ahmed’s younger brother Khalid Azim.

The Uttar Pradesh Police formed 10 teams to look for the attackers and are extensively checking all Prayagraj exit routes, including borders, bus stands, and the airport.

So far, the Uttar Pradesh Police have detained over 40 people, including Atiq’s relatives, over the murder of Umesh Pal. The Uttar Pradesh Police is all set to question Atiq Khan, who is currently lodged in Ahmedabad’s Sabarmati jail, as they believe he hatched the conspiracy to kill Umesh Pal.

Meanwhile, Atiq Ahmed’s wife Shaista Parveen, wrote a letter to Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath demanding a CBI enquiry in the Umesh Pal murder case. She accused Prayagraj Police Commissioner Ramesh Sharma and ADG STF Amitabh Yash of conniving with opponents and taking contracts for the murder of her husband Atiq Ahmed and Atiq’s younger brother Ashraf.
