Mysuru, 11 April 2015: Bollywood acotor Irrfan Khan believes in sustainable living and he is quiet vocal of what he thinks. The talented actor has come ahead and lent his support to theatre personality and social activist Prasanna’s led Badanawal Satyagraha and National Convention for sustainable living, here in Badanawalu village in Nanjangud taluk.
This village is famous for Khadi cottage industry and it was initiated by none other than Mahtma Gandhi.
The actor advocated sustainable living by conserving the indigenous tradition against aping the West.
This was the message of actor Irrfan Khan before heading for an overnight stay at Badanavalu village, about 30 km from Mysuru, to join his “guru” and theatre personality Prasanna, who has launched a campaign there for sustainable living.
Accompanied by his writer-wife, Sutapa Sikdar, Mr. Khan interacted with reporters here. He said, “Why should we follow the Western concept of living which promotes use-and-throw culture.”
To ensure villages are self-sufficient, Mr. Khan said it was important to support the unique craftsmanship of village residents and the cottage industries. Village residents would be left with “nothing” if they sell their land and migrate to cities, which were improperly planned, he said.
Talking about the movement Irrfan said, "Our living has to be in sync with nature. Instead of having people migrate to cities that are suffering from lack of proper planning, our efforts should be directed towards making villages self-sufficient.".

Irrfan asserted the need to support our own craft and industries. He further advised the villagers against migrating to cities in search of greener pastures. Instead, the villages have to be self-sufficient and the rural folk should not migrate to cities that are already jam packed with people. If they leave the lands, they are left with nothing.
He said, our own arts and crafts brings identity. And, any movement will be serious, if it really has a purpose. When asked if his jump into the movement was momentary, he quipped, "I will continue with it for life." Irrfan has always supported causes which touch him or in which he believes in. The talented actor is busy juggling between his shooting commitments and ’Piku’ promotions.
