Bangalore, Jan 31, 2013: Advocates here today opposed the government’s reported move to appoint former Karnataka High Court Chief Justice Bhaskar Rao as Lokayukta.
President of Advocates Association of Bangalore K N Subba Reddy said the objections were on the grounds that Rao will not be able to record statements of witnesses in Kannada as he hails from Andhra Pradesh, he is aged and he faced certain allegations when he was the Chief Justice over a decade ago.
The government has reportedly recommended the name of Rao for the post of Lokayukta which has been lying vacant since September, 2011, after retired supreme court judge Shivaraj Patil quit in the wake of allegations of securing allotment of a residential site violating norms by him.
