Lucknow, Aug 08 2017 : In an apparent bid to boost the sagging morale of the party workers following dismal performance of his party’s in the recent assembly polls in Uttar Pradesh, Samajwadi Party (SP) supremo Akhilesh Yadav will be hitting the road and hold series of rallies to protest against alleged ’’anti-farmer’’ and ’’anti-people’’ policies of the BJP government.
According to the SP leaders, Akhilesh will launch the party’s state wide ’desh bachao, desh banao’ (save the country) agitation with a rally at the temple town of Ayodhya, about 125 kilometres from here, on Tuesday, the ’August Kranti Day’.
’’Rallies and dharnas will be held across the state to expose the BJP’s failure on law and order and its anti-farmer policies,’’ SP leader and spokesman Rajendra Chaudhary said.
Chaudhary added that his party had given sufficient time to the new dispensation to prove that it was taking steps to resolve the pressing issues concerning the farmers and other sections.
’’Even after four months, the BJP government has failed to fulfil the promises it had made to the people of the state at the time of the assembly polls,’’ he added.
’’The law and order situation in the state has worsened...women are unsafe...the crime graph has shot up drastically,’’ the SP leader alleged.
SP sources, however, said that the agitation was part of party’s strategy to ’’boost’’ the ’’sagging morale’’ of the party workers and revive its support base in the state ahead of the next Lok Sabha elections in 2019.
’’Akhilesh finalised the strategy after several round of meetings with senior SP leaders,’’ said a senior party leader while speaking to Deccan Herald.
The choice of Ayodhya was significant as UP chief minister Yogi Adityanath visited the town twice after assuming charge of the state.
The agitation would continue till September, sources said. Akhilesh is likely to get a second term as SP national president in September at the party’s national executive meeting.
