New Delhi, July 18, 2023: Prime Minister Narendra Modi, addressing the National Democratic Alliance’s (NDA) meeting in New Delhi, said that alliances built on negative perceptions always fail.

NDA Meet

The prime minister’s remarks come shortly after leaders of 26 opposition parties met in Bengaluru today and named their alliance INDIA - Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance -- to take on the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA).

"When the alliance is out of compulsion of power, when the alliance is with the intention of corruption, when the alliance is based on the policy of nepotism when the alliance is done keeping casteism and regionalism in mind, then that alliance prove harmful for the country," said PM Modi.

PM Modi lashed out at the UPA (United Progressive Alliance), now INDIA, and said that prior to 2014, the coalition government was crammed with policy paralysis.

“A high command over the prime minister, policy paralysis, inability to take decisions, chaos and mistrust, tussles and corruption, scams worth millions,” said PM Modi alluding to the UPA rule.

"In our country, there has been a long history of political coalitions, but any coalition that was built on negativity was never successful," said the prime minister.

In his address, the prime minister accused the Congress party of "using" coalitions to topple governments.

"Congress during the 90s used collations to bring instability in the country. Congress formed governments and even toppled them. During the same time period in 1998, NDA was formed", said PM Modi.

He said NDA was formed not to expel someone from power but to bring stability to the country.

"NDA was not formed in opposition to someone. It was not formed to expel anyone from power. It was formed to bring stability to the country," said the prime minister, adding that the country makes "immortal decisions" when it has a stable government.

PM Modi claimed that NDA was committed to the people of the country and said that nation, its progress, security and empowerment of people were its ideology and top priority.

Speaking on poverty in the country, the prime minister said that "no stone was left unturned to empower the people".

"No stone was left unturned to empower the people. As a result, around 13.5 crore people were lifted out of poverty after 2015-16 as per the Niti Aayog report," he said.

Quoting the World Bank report, the prime minister said, "Around 40 crore people defeated poverty in a short span of time".

"As per the IMF, extreme poverty is on the verge of being wiped out from India," he added.
