New Delhi, Nov 17, 2022: Amazon has already announced layoff of thousands of employees and it has now come to light that the company is asking people to leave the company voluntarily. According to the internal documents viewed by CNBC, the e-commerce giant is sending out “voluntary severance” offers to some employees in several divisions. This also includes departments of human resources and employee services.
Those who are ready to leave the company, Amazon will give severance payment in the next three months, as well as one week of salary for every six months of tenure at Amazon. The offer will also include a weekly stipend for 12 weeks, which the report says can be “used to offset COBRA premiums.” Employees will also continue to get insurance by the end of this year.
Amazon is not asking people to immediately take a decision and has given a specific time period for this. The employees reportedly have time until November 29 to decide whether they want to resign voluntarily. After this, people will also have the option to withdraw their application for the same until December 5, in case they change their mind.
The report stated that the e-commerce giant will inform about the approved resignations by next month and their last day will then be December 23. Amazon has also fired a lot of employees as part of saving costs. The job cuts have reportedly been done in devices group like Alexa voice assistant, retail division, and human resources.
As per reports, Amazon has plans to lay off as many as 10,000 employees, but it will remove people gradually. In a meeting, the company reportedly asked many people to find another job in the next 2 months, which suggests that it is giving some time to people before firing them.
The news of Amazon layoffs comes just a few days after Meta announced that it will be firing 11,000 employees to save costs. Twitter also recently laid off around 3,500 employees after Elon Musk bought the company and said that the company will have to take this step to reduce costs.
