New Delhi, August 15: In a dramatic move, Anna Hazare on Monday suddenly went to Rajghat and sat in the lawns in front of Mahatma Gandhi’s samadhi taking authorities by surprise.

On the eve of his fast for a strong Lokpal Bill, Anna went to the samadhi of the Apostle of peace and non-violence late afternoon and meditated there for over an hour.

The 74-year-old anti-corruption crusader and his supporters have been denied permission to stage their protest at Jai Prakash Narain Park in New Delhi by Delhi Police

The impromptu visit to Rajghat on the Independence Day was unscheduled and the visitors were surprised to see the Gandhian in their midst sitting in front of the samadhi amid light rain.

The visit also caught police by surprise, prompting them to rush a team of officers to the memorial to maintain law and order.

After Anna reached Rajghat, hundreds of people reached the memorial.

Team Anna To Move Court After Permission Denied For Protest

Anna Hazare team member Prashant Bhushan today said they will move court against Delhi Police for denying permission to them to hold a protest fast at Jai Prakash Narain Park.

Terming the decision as “unconstitutional and undemocratic”, Bhushan said the police acted against the democratic rights of the citizens by denying permission to undertake peaceful protest.

“We will knock the doors of the court,” he told reporters.

Bhushan alleged that the democracy under the present government was turning to autocracy and it reminded of Emergency in the 1970s.

After the Hazare team refused to give an undertaking restricting the number of days of protests to three and protestors to 5,000, the police refused to grant permission to them for the indefinite fast demanding a strong Lokpal Bill.
