Arvind Kejriwal slapped again in Delhi, blames Modi

New Delhi, April 8, 2014: AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal faced another attack on Tuesday after an unidentified man slapped him during a road show in Delhi. The assault left Kejriwal with a swollen eye.

Kejriwal_Delhi...The attack took place in Sultanpuri area. A video shows a man wearing a grey shirt, first garlanding Kejriwal who is standing on a jeep, and than suddenly slapping him twice.

The attacker was immediately pull down by Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) supporters.

Kejriwal had been attacked in Delhi’s Dakshinpuri area also last week. The man was handed over to the police by AAP volunteers.

The AAP leader directed his anger at BJP after the attack.

"I do not understand why do some people resort to violence for becoming the Prime Minister. If you think by attacking us, we will keep quite then you are wrong. We will fight this battle till the last breath," he said in a clear reference to BJP’s PM nominee Narendra Modi.

The AAP leader headed for Rajghat after the incident. "I am going to Rajghat," he said.

"I am just thinking - why am i being repeatedly attacked? Who r the masterminds? What do they want? What do they achieve?

Is violence an answer to country’s problems? let them tell me place n time. I will come there. Let them beat me as much as they want...but will that solve the problems?" Kejriwal tweeted.


This was second such attack on Kejriwal in the last four days. He was attacked by a 19-year-old youth during his campaigning in Dakshinpuri area of South Delhi on Friday.

The former chief minister has been attacked a number of times in the past.

On March 28, he was attacked by a man, who claimed to be a supporter of Anna Hazare, during his election rally in Haryana.

In Varanasi last week, protesters threw ink on Kejriwal and a number of other party leaders during a roadshow.

Last week, an unidentified  person lunged at Kejriwal when he was campaigning in the area in an open jeep. He slapped him on the neck before being taken down by Kejriwal’s supporters.

Notwithstanding Kejriwal’s appeals to not to resort to violence, his supporters had started beating up the man. AAP volunteers had to escort the man to safety after forming a protective ring around him.

This is not the first time Kejriwal has been attacked.

On March 28, the activist-turned-politician was reportedly attacked by a man, who claimed to be a supporter of anti-corruption crusader Anna Hazare, during his election rally in Haryana.

The attacker, identified as Satinder of Lehga village in Bhiwani district, got near the open vehicle in which Kejriwal was travelling during the road show and tried to hit him.

Aam Aadmi Party supporters retaliated by beating the attacker. The incident took place in Charkhi Dadri. Kejriwal keen on joining hands with Modi: Ramdev

Soon after the incident, Kejriwal tweeted, "Someone hit me hard on my neck jst now. This kind of violent reaction is expected of them. It only shows their true character n desperation".

"Our supporters beat him up in retaliation. That is very wrong. That is not expected of us," Kejriwal said in a tweet.

Before that, black ink was thrown at Kejriwal during a road show after he reached Varanasi to take on BJP’s prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi.

Kejriwal was proceeding slowly in an open vehicle when he was targeted.
