New Delhi, Mar 27, 2024: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s wife Sunita said on Wednesday that her husband will expose the truth in the "so-called liquor scam" when he appears in front of the Delhi High Court on Thursday. She said that he will "reveal where the money" of the scam is and also provide evidence.
Sunita Kejriwal addressed a press conference today after a meeting with her husband, who is currently under the Enforcement Directorate’s custody following his arrest on March 21 by the probe agency in connection to the now-scrapped Delhi excise policy.
At the press conference, Sunita Kejriwal claimed that the ED found only Rs 73,000 when they raided the couple’s residence in Delhi’s Civil Lines area.
She also said that in the "so-called liquor scam, the ED has conducted more than 250 raids. They are searching for money from this so-called scam. They have found nothing yet."
"Arvind Kejriwal will reveal everything in court on March 28. He will tell the truth to the nation where the money from the liquor scam is. He will also provide proof."
Sunita Kejriwal further said that "two days ago, Arvind Kejriwal sent a letter to (Delhi) Water Minister Atishi regarding the water and sewer problems in Delhi".
"The Central government filed a case against him. Do they want to destroy Delhi? Do they want the people to keep suffering? Arvind Kejriwal is very pained by this."
Sunita Kejriwal called her husband a "true patriot, fearless and courageous person. Wishing him long life, health and success".
"’He says that although he is physically in jail, his soul is among the people."
Also on Wednesday, the Delhi High Court heard a petition filed by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) supremo challenging his arrest and subsequent remand by the ED, which he says are "illegal".
Following his arrest, he was remanded to ED custody until March 28.
In his petition, the Delhi Chief Minister also said the probe agency "violated his fundamental and human rights" and the ED failed to establish his guilt in the case at the time of his arrest.
Responding to Sunita Kejriwal’s remarks, Union Minister Anurag Thakur told ANI news agency, "When Lalu Prasad Yadav was caught in the fodder scam, Rabdi Devi used to make announcements, and then she caught hold of the chair gradually."
He also alleged that the AAP supremo is "in the swamp of corruption now" despite talking about ethics earlier and also staging "hunger strikes against Congress’ corruption".
"AAP’s MP, health minister, deputy Chief Minister, education minister and their MLC, everyone is in jail. Their Chief Minister and the kingpin of the liquor scam is also in jail," the Union Minister said.
"They used to demand that Sonia Gandhi should be taken into remand to get the truth out... He is so fond of his position as Chief Minister, that he is not able to leave it even while being jailed... Arvind Kejriwal is ’kattar beimaan’ (blatantly dishonest)," he added.
