Bagalkot, Nov 11, 2020: A video of a BJP legislator manhandling a woman has gone viral in Karnataka. The MLA in question is Siddu Savadi who can be seen pulling and assaulting the woman from his own party in the presence of police personnel.
The incident took place on November 10. This was all about the elections for the post of President and Vice President of the Mahalingapur town council. In the 23 member council, the BJP has 13 members while the Congress has 10. 3 BJP members identified as Godavari Baat, Chandini Nayak and Savita Hurakadli allied with the Congress and filed nominations. They wanted the posts that were vacant but the BJP was not willing to accept their demands.
On the day of the elections, the MLA who was clearly outraged with their decision tried to prevent them from participating in the elections. He can be seen in the video dragging one of the BJP members identified as Chandini right in front of the police. It is alleged that Chandini suffered minor injuries and has received treatment.
The Congress party slammed the BJP MLA for his behaviour against a woman member from his own party. KPCC President DK Shivakumar said that the BJP is capable of doing anything to anyone.
’Police would usually register a suo motu case in any other situation but today they have not done anything even though it happened right in front of them,’ he said.
"Our party is watching their (BJP) every move and will raise our voice when the time is right," added Shivakumar.
