Mangalore, Sept 23, 2012: The BJP on Saturday sacked two loyalists of former Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa from key positions in the party and the government.

Rajya Sabha member Ayanur Manjunath was the first person to be fired from the post of state unit spokesman. While no reason was given for his removal, his remarks against Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar and Deputy Chief Minister R Ashok a few days ago are believed to have prompted the action.

Former Union Minister of State V Dhananjay Kumar was sacked as Karnataka’s Delhi representative. Although no reason was given, a senior party leader on condition of anonymity, cited “poor performance”.

Kumar was replaced by BJP loyalist Baikanakere Nagesh. Yeddyurappa had embarrassed the party in the last few days with his blistering attacks on leaders and the government. Twice in the past week, Yeddyurappa demanded party president and Deputy Chief Minister K S Eshwarappa’s resignation from the Cabinet. He even stated that he will not hesitate to quit the party if the situation demanded.

An aspirant for the party’s post of president, Yeddyurappa had raised the attack ahead of the BJP National Executive meeting on September 27 to attract the attention of the national leaders so that they would take note of his demand.
