“Tipu Sultan was a fanatic and anti-Kannada. We oppose the State government’s decision to celebrate his birth anniversary, that too during Deepavali,” he said.

In a press statement later in the day, Joshi stated, “It is unfortunate that our state government is celebrating the anniversary of a controversial person as a state-sponsored programme. “

“The State government is insulting those who were subjected to his (Tipu’s) cruelty and killed mercilessly, particularly the people of Kodagu, who were the worst sufferers of his rule,” he said.

Protest next Tuesday

Demanding a solution to the crisis in the energy sector, resignation of Social Welfare Minister H Anjaneya who is facing corruption charges, and the commencement of drought relief works, he said the BJP workers would picket the Vidhana Soudha in Bengaluru on November 17 during the legislature session.

Lokayukta impeachment

Later, the BJP leaders would move an impeachment motion against Lokayukta Justice
Y Bhaskar Rao in the Legislative Council. Joshi said he would also urge the JD(S) and the Congress to support the move.

He said the party would also discuss the issue of boycotting “tainted” ministers during the legislature session at its legislative party meeting scheduled to be held on November 16.
