Bajrang Dal leader, 3 held over murder of youth in Karnataka’s Nargund

Nargund, Jan 19, 2022: A Bajrang Dal leader has been arrested along with three others on the charges of killing 19-year-old Sameer Shahapur at Nargund in Gadag. The four accused had attacked Shahpur on Sunday night. He, however, succumbed to his injuries on Monday morning. The victim used to work as a server in a road-side eatery.

The accused have been identified as Bajrang Dal leader Sanju Nalvade, Gundya Muttappa Hiremath, Channu Chandrashekar Akki, and Sakrappa Hanumanthappa Kakanur. All the four are Nargund locals in Gadag district.

According to police, the victim was present along with Shamsher Khan Pathan, a photographer. It is alleged that a the four stopped the duo, who were on a motorbike, and then attacked the 19-year-old with rods and knives.

Surveillance footage of the attack has shown how the duo were chased even though they tried to flee and were attacked by the assailants. It was locals who then took these two to a nearby hospital in Nargund. The police then shifted them both to the KIMS hospital in Hubballi.

Police also said that there have been issues in the past between the two communities but it was never this serious. As of now, Gadag SP Shiva Prakash Devaraj said an investigation is under way and all angles will be looked into to get to the bottom of this attack.
