Bengaluru, February 22, 2025: A woman was raped by four men in Bengaluru’s Koramangala area, it was reported on Friday. The woman was reportedly lured by the men under the pretence of being old acquaintances.
The crime took place on a hotel terrace in the intervening hours of Thursday night and Friday morning, after which the accused robbed the victim and forced her to leave.
She later called emergency number 112 and alerted the police.
Koramangala police have arrested three suspects, identified as Ajit, Vishwas, and Shivu from West Bengal and Uttarakhand, while one remains absconding. The accused work at a hotel in HSR Layout.
A manhunt is underway, the police said, who also registered a case of gang rape.
Sarah Fatima, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Southeast), said the police received the information on Friday morning, around 7.30-8 am. “Four men are involved.. . All the necessary procedures have been completed, including those for the victim, medical exam and other procedures,” she told the media.
“The incident took place early this morning, and we will learn more details during the investigation. The preliminary investigation suggests that she had gone to meet a friend,” the officer said.
“The victim is from Delhi. She is married and settled here,” she revealed about the woman, saying she was in “good condition”.
In January this year, a six-year-old girl was sexually assaulted and murdered at an under-construction site in Bengaluru’s Hoysala Nagar area.
In February 2024, Karnataka Home Minister G Parameshwara revealed that Bengaluru reported 444 rape cases between 2021-2023, and the numbers were increasing annually.
