Biden praises Modi’s Ukraine visit, supports India’s UN Security Council bid

New Delhi, June 22, 2024: US President Joe Biden praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his historic visit to Ukraine and his message of peace amid the ongoing conflict with Russia. During their meeting, Biden also expressed support for India’s bid for permanent membership in a reformed UN Security Council.


Biden praises Modi


The White House commended Modi’s leadership in the G20 and Global South, highlighting India’s efforts in addressing global challenges such as the COVID-19 pandemic and international conflicts. Biden specifically acknowledged Modi’s visit to Ukraine and Poland, calling it a significant step toward peace and humanitarian aid.

The two leaders also discussed strengthening strategic cooperation through the Initiative on Critical and Emerging Technology (iCET), focusing on space, semiconductors, and advanced telecommunications. They also celebrated progress in India’s procurement of 31 MQ-9B drones, which will boost India’s defense capabilities.

Additionally, Biden and Modi recognized advancements in defense industrial collaboration and efforts to expand clean energy supply chains, with joint projects aiming to unlock $1 billion for renewable energy initiatives.

The leaders also applauded the new US-India Drug Policy Framework, aiming to combat synthetic drug production, and the launch of the US-India Cancer Dialogue to boost cancer research collaboration.
