Patna, October 12, 2016: Situation in Bihariganj town in Madehepura district of Bihar remains tense after clashes took place between two communities on Tuesday evening.
Section 144 CrPC has been imposed in the town after the clashes.
The clashes erupted after one community, which was carrying out a religious procession, was attacked by the other community leading to violent clashes.
POLICE, DISTRICT OFFICIALS RUSHED TO QUELL ANGER, WERE ATTACKED INSTEAD
Soon after the clashes took place, the police and district administration officials led by the District Majistrate Mohammad Sohail and Superintendent of Police Vikas Kumar reached the spot to quell the anger. However, they too had to face the wrath of the agitators.
Those who were stopped from carrying out the religious procession attacked the police vehicles and set the SDM’s and DSP’s vehicles on fire.
They first damaged the vehicles of the district officials and later torched them. The Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) and Sub-Divisional Magistrate(SDM) had to run away from the spot to save their lives.
Thereafter, the local MP, Pappu Yadav reached the spot to control the situation.
SITUATION REMAINS TENSE
It was only by early morning today that the group carrying out the religious procession agreed to end their procession.
The situation in Madhepura, however, continues to remain tense.
Considering that the other community will be carrying out a religious procession today, massive police deployment has been put in place in Bihariganj.
The town has turned into a police camp in order to keep the situation under control.
