Bengaluru, August 22, 2024: A 21-year-old youth died after a speeding car rammed his two-wheeler from behind following a minor accident in northeastern Bengaluru, police officials said on Thursday.

The deceased has been indentified as Mahesh, a resident of Chamundeshwari Nagar.

Road rage

According to the police, at around 8 pm on Wednesday near Saptagiri Layout, Mahesh was riding triples on a white Bajaj Pulsar with his two friends Nikhil and Balaji, also in their early 20s.

The three diploma and undergraduate degree holders were unemployed, the police said.

At the same time, Arvind and Chennakeshava, the two suspects, were in a Volkswagen car. At one point, the police said, Arvind, who was behind the wheel, honked and directed Mahesh to clear the way.

Since Mahesh continued to ride as is, Arvind drove his car and slightly brushed against the motorcycle.

“Sensing repercussions, Mahesh began to speed, while Arvind chased him,” a police investigator said.

“At one point, as the bike slowed down, Nikhil and Balaji jumped, while Mahesh continued to ride away with Arvind behind him.”

At a dead end, Mahesh slowed down his motorcycle only to be hit by the speeding car driven by Arvind. Mahesh was knocked from his motorcycle and rammed against the wall of a building, sustaining major injuries to his head and died on the spot. The car also hit a pole.

“All three on the motorcycle were not wearing helmets,” an official said. “The three were out to get tea while the two suspects were returning home after running some errands,” the official added.

Police have arrested Arvind, an employee of a private bank in Bengaluru, and Chennakeshava, a civil engineer with a real estate firm. The two have been booked under Section 103 (punishment for murder) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Further investigations are on.
