Bomb threat email sent to Bengaluru airport amid Aero India 2025; police launch probe

Bengaluru, February 11, 2025: Bengaluru’s Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) received a bomb threat email on February 8, sparking security concerns as the Aero India 2025 event commenced in the city on Monday, officials said.

The email, sent from mahanteshs6699@proton.me, warned of a drone attack on incoming flights at the Bengaluru and Chennai airports.

It stated: "THERE WILL BE A DRONE ATTACK ON LANDING FLIGHTS IN BANGALORE, CHENNAI OR KERALA AIRPORT IF I DID NOT GET ANY ANSWER FOR MY LETTER FROM BASAVARAJ BOMMAI (MP EX CHIEF MINISTER KARNATAKA).”

The airport police have registered an FIR under sections 125 (endangering safety of others), 351 (criminal intimidation), and 353 (public mischief) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Investigations are ongoing.
