Hassan, Mar 15, 2018 : Former prime minister and JD(S) national president H D Deve Gowda on Thursday termed results of Lok Sabha and Assembly by-elections in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar as an indication of the Congress’ growing weakness.
"That the Congress party’s weakness has continued is the indication of the by-election results," he told reporters.
Gowda predicted that outcome of the results might impact national politics.
"The third front may be revived, but we will have to wait and watch regarding what will happen next," he said.
"I volunteered to meet BSP leader Mayawati at her residence as she is one of the powerful leaders at the national level. We will go to polls in Karnataka maintaining equal distance from the Congress and the BJP," Gowda said.
"We will approach the High Court regarding disqualification of seven JD(S) rebel MLAs for voting against the party’s candidate in the previous election to the Rajya Sabha. These MLAs have openly stated that they would vote for the Congress in the upcoming Rajya Sabha polls which is too much," he said.
Regarding controversy about according the status of independent religion to Lingayat faith, Gowda declined to comment, but said: "I’ve always respected seers."
The JD(S) would launch a protest against the state government if it did not file review petition over the Kaveri Water Dispute Tribunal’s verdict.
"We don’t want to do injustice to Tamil Nadu, but are worried about protecting our interests," he said.
