Bengaluru, Sep 16 2017 DH News: The Criminal Investigation Department (CID), which is probing the assassination of Kannada researcher M M Kalburgi, is assisting the Special Investigation Team (SIT) in the Gauri Lankesh murder.

KalburgiThe CID found prima facie that there were similarities in the killing of Kalburgi, activist Narendra Dabholkar and senior communist leader Govind Pansare and Gauri’s case.

C H Prathap Reddy, ADGP (CID), told DH, “We shared information with SIT that a similar pistol was used to kill Kalburgi, Dabholkar and Pansare. The modus operandi was also similar in all the three cases. All the important leads have been shared with the SIT.’’ Reddy added, “Important leads have been identified and shared with other agencies and they have been able to close their cases. The CID’s specific leads need to be traced.” The CID team hopes that clues in the Gauri Lankesh murder case may throw more light on the Kalburgi case.

Meanwhile, a top source in the SIT said that they have done a detailed study of more than 634 digital video recorders (DVRs) and CCTV footage. SIT has concluded that the assailants did not know Gauri’s house. Had they known her house, they would not have conducted two recces one at 3.22 pm and another at 7.15 pm before striking at 8.30 pm.

A top source in the SIT said that there were similarities in the modus operandi in Gauri’s killing and three others — Kalburgi, Dabholkar and Pansare. There, however, was a difference in the timing of the murders. Gauri was killed late evening and other three in the morning.
