COVID-19: India’s death toll rises to 559; Total tally at 17,656

New Delhi, Apr 20, 2020: The total number of positive cases in India on Monday, 20 April rose to 17,656 with the number of deaths standing at over 559 according to the data released by the ministry of health and family welfare.

The doubling rate for coronavirus which was 3.4 days before lockdown is now 7.5 days, according to the health ministry. It also said that Goa is now free of the virus, PTI reports.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Home Affairs has objected to Kerala government giving ‘additional relaxation’ during lockdown, after the state had allowed opening of restaurants and MSME industries in municipal areas among others.

The Kerala government said there was some "misunderstanding", due to which the Centre had objected to dilution of the lockdown protocol.

Lav Agarwal, Joint Secretary, Health Ministry in the daily briefing said that so far, 2,546 people have been cured and the recovery rate is at 14.75%
