On December 28, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra was on her way to Lucknow’s residence of retired IPS officers SR Darapuri, who was arrested during anti-CAA protests. Priyanka was stopped by at Lohia Path in the UP capital; however, she managed to sped away on a scooter, driven by party Secretary Dheeraj Gurjar. They were later stopped at the Polytechnic Square, form there she walked to Darapuri`s residence.

Priyanka later alleged that she was manhandled by the police and ’grabbed by the neck for no reason’. "The police stopped me while I was going to meet Darapuri’s family. The cops manhandled me. They surrounded me while I was riding pillion on a party worker`s two-wheeler. After that I walked to Darapuri’s residence." She was also prevented from meeting the family of Congress leader Sadaf Jafar, who has been arrested over anti-CAA protests.

Priyanka was also heard saying, "Why are you stopping us? What`s the point of stopping us in the middle of the road." One of her aides was heard saying, "Stopping the car in the middle of the road could lead to an accident."

Reacting to the incident, Lucknow SSP Kalanidhi Naithini said that area in-charge, Archana Singh has presented a report to Additional Superintendent in which she said that allegations of Priyanka Gandhi Vadra being strangulated and heckled were ’untrue’. He said Singh has presented a report to Additional Superintendent of Police where she has mentioned that Priyanka’s car ’was not moving in the scheduled route rather a different route’.

"Singh has also written that whatever rumours were doing rounds on social media of heckling and strangulating Priyanka Gandhi Vadra are untrue," Naithini added.

Youth Cong rally near against cops manhandling Priyanka
The youth wing of the Congress on Sunday staged a demonstration near the Uttar Pradesh Bhawan here against police "manhandling" party general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra in Lucknow and demanded resignation of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.

The protesters were detained by Delhi police personnel as soon as they tried to march towards the UP Bhawan from the nearby Assam Bhawan in South Delhi’s Chanakyapuri area.

Indian Youth Congress (IYC) president Srinivas BV, who lead the protesters, said the Uttar Pradesh chief minister should immediately resign for the "shameful" behaviour of the state police with Priyanka Gandhi Vadra.

"The UP government has sent many people in jails and now the state police is manhandling senior political leaders. It has lost all moral and social right to remain in power," IYC media in-charge Amrish Ranjan Pandey alleged.

The alleged incident occurred in Lucknow on Saturday when the Congress leader was heading to the residence of retired IPS officer S R Darapuri, who was arrested in connection with the recent anti-CAA protests.

Priyanka Gandhi Vadra claimed that the police tried to stop her, she was surrounded, held by the throat by a female cop and pushed by another as she was walking towards Darapuri’s residence in Indiranagar’s sector 18.

UP Police has termed the allegations "false".
