Bengaluru, Nov 14, 2023: As Vijayendra Yediyurappa is set to assume the role of Bharatiya Janata Party’s state unit president on November 15, his contender for the post CT Ravi has said that he will not be present at the oath-taking ceremony due to prior commitments.

Vijayendra, the son of former Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa and a first-time Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) from Shikaripura, was chosen for the top job after the BJP’s defeat to Congress in the May elections.

CT Ravi, who was also in the running for the state president’s post, has confirmed that he will miss the swearing-in event despite Vijayendra personally reaching out to him twice regarding the upcoming ceremony.

Ravi explained that he had prior engagements that would require him to be in Madhya Pradesh for campaigning until the night of the 15th. He has informed Vijayendra of his unavailability for the ceremony, he said.

The decision to appoint Vijayendra has been seen as a move to consolidate the party’s position ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. The new president will have the responsibility of galvanizing the party cadre following the assembly poll setback.

While some within the party have expressed concerns about dynasty politics, the leadership’s choice has put Yediyurappa’s legacy in the state’s BJP dynamics on a pedestal.
