London, July 14, 2024: Carlos Alcaraz successfully defended his Wimbledon men’s singles title after beating Novak Djokovic in straigh sets at the Centre Court. In what was a repeat of last year’s final, Alcaraz beat Djokovic 6-2, 6-2, 7-6 (4) in just under three hours at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club. Alcaraz has now become only the sixth man to win the French Open and Wimbledon back-to-back.
Djokovic had won four consecutive titles at the All England Club since 2019 until he was trounced by Alcaraz in the final last year. The Spaniard lost the first 1-6 before winning the next two 7–6(8–6), 6–1. Djokovic then nabbed the fourth set before Alcaraz fended off the seven-time champion 6–4 in the decisive fifth set.
