Cartoonist Mario Miranda dies at 85

Goa, Dec 11: Eminent cartoonist Mario de Miranda, who drew Goa for the world and drew the world to Goa, died on Sunday. The 85-year old died in his sleep at his home in Goa.

Mario brought Mumbai alive along with Behram Contractor (Busybee) with cartoon characters like Miss Nimboo Pani, Bundaldass, Napolean and others.

Miranda was regular with many newspapers in Mumbai including the Times of India. His works were also featured in MAD and PUNCH magazines.

He was awarded the Padma Bhushan in 2002, and Padma Shri in 1988.
