New Delhi, Sep 03, 2014: A BJP legislator was shot at by an unidentified assailant in front of his house in east Delhi’s Vivek Vihar area early this morning. The incident was recorded on a closed-circuit television (CCTV) camera.
Jitender Singh Shunty, an MLA from Shahdara in east Delhi, escaped unhurt as the bullets narrowly missed him. The CCTV video shows the assailant, wearing a helmet, having a scuffle with the MLA before he opened fire.
The MLA has reportedly told the police that two men came to his house on a motor-cycle around 5:30 am and forced him to attest some documents. When he resisted, he claims, one of them took out a gun and attacked him.
"My doorbell rang several times. When I went out to see, there were two men who wanted me to attest some papers. When I resisted, one of them held my collar and then took out a gun. As I tried to fight back, he opened fire," he said.
The Delhi Police is examining the CCTV video for more leads.
