New Delhi, November 1, 2024: Two people, including a teenager, were killed and a boy sustained injuries in a firing incident during Diwali celebrations in the Bihari Colony in Delhi’s Shahdara area on Thursday, the police said. The horrific incident was captured on CCTV.
The deceased were identified as Akash (40) and Rishab, his nephew (16). Krish, the 10-year-old son, was injured in the firing incident.

One detained in connection with incident
According to the police, five rounds of bullets were fired at them. Based on CCTV footage, one minor has been detained for questioning. The preliminary investigation revealed that it was a case of personal enmity, the police said.
“At around 8.30 pm, we received a PCR call informing that there had been firing in the Bihari Colony and some people were injured. Upon reaching the spot, it was known that Akash (40) his nephew Rishab (16), and his son Krish (10) were shot. Akash and Rishab have lost their lives. In the prima facie investigation, we have found that 5 rounds of bullets were fired," DCP Shahdara Prashant Gautam said.

Family narrates incident
The mother of the deceased Akash named a man Lakshay who she said visited their residence for a few days regularly. He had come to their house on Diwali with a box of sweets and when her son was preparing to burst crackers outside the house, she heard the fireshots.
“One man named Lakshay had been visiting our lane for the last 3-4 days. Yesterday, he came to our house with a box of sweets and urged me to receive it in my hands. At the time when my son was making preparations to burst firecrackers, two people including Lakshay came and then I heard shots being fired. Next, I saw that my son was shot…" she said.
Akash’s brother who is also deceased teenager Rishab’s father, Yogesh, said that Akash had a financial dispute with someone.

“The incident happened around 7.30 pm – 8.00 pm yesterday. Two people including my nephew who was riding a two-wheeler and an unknown pedestrian had come. My brother and son were killed by the person who was on the two-wheeler. Some time ago, my brother had a dispute over money with someone," he said.
