Caught on CCTV: Tamil Nadu woman, 61, struck by car, flung 20 feet in air

Tamil Nadu, July 9, 2024: A 61-year-old woman was killed on Sunday after being struck by a speeding car while waiting to cross a road in Tamil Nadu’s Tirunelveli district.

Police identified the victim as Gomathi, a resident of Kaniyur.

CCTV footage captured the incident, which showed Gomathi standing near a zebra crossing when a white sedan travelling at high speed rammed into her.

The impact of the collision threw Gomathi nearly 20 feet and resulted in her death on the spot.

Responding to the accident, police retrieved Gomathi’s body and sent it for autopsy at the Government Hospital. The driver of the car, identified as Saravanan, a resident of Thakkalai, has been detained by authorities.

An investigation into the accident is ongoing.
