As per the police, a gang followed Ali and cornered him before fatally attacking him, reported The Indian Express. He was rushed to Bowring Hospital but was declared dead on arrival. The attack took place near the Ashoknagar police station prompting swift response from authorities.
"Haider Ali, a ’rowdy-sheeter’ with 11 criminal cases, was attacked and killed between 1 to 1:30 AM while returning home from a bar," said Deputy Bengaluru City Commissioner of Police (Central), Shekhar H Tekkannavar.
"He was ambushed by unknown assailants, intercepted, and assaulted with weapons. His driver sustained minor injuries... a murder case has been registered at Ashok Nagar Police Station," the DCP said.
Tekkannavar further said that no arrests had been made in connection with the matter yet but police are actively investigating the case.
Following the murder, Ali’s supporters reportedly gathered near the hospital, brandishing machetes and swords, sparking concerns about potential unrest and causing panic among people.
