Bengaluru, Oct 23, 2023: Congress leader M Srinivas was killed on Monday in an alleged attack by six men in Kolar district.

Srinivas was supervising the construction of his bar, after which he returned to his farmhouse.

According to the police, the six assailants had approached the Congress leader and greeted him. He appeared to know them as he offered them to sit with him to drink coffee.

"He (M Srinivas) knew them and offered them coffee. The security official with him went to arrange it. He had 3-4 chairs around him and some of the assailants sat down on them. Then one of them sprayed some chemical in his eyes and he started screaming. Another attacker started stabbing him, after which he ran towards the wall. His bodyguard saw this but he also ran away in panic," a senior police official said.

An eyewitness said that the assailants referred to him as "uncle" and extended a handshake before suddenly attacking him with machetes.

"We were having tea with him, these people came and one of them shook hands with him and asked - ’how are you uncle?’ Another person from behind sprayed something on him and two of them started attacking them. One chased me and threw a machete at me. I somehow escaped from there and ran inside a brick factory for my safety. I didn’t know what happened after that," the eyewitness said.

The police said that although the Congress leader was quickly taken to Jalappa Hospital, he succumbed to his injuries while on the way to the hospital.
