Punjab, Jul 21, 2018 : A constable of counter intelligence wing was booked for allegedly opening fire at a man who rejected the cop’s marriage proposal for his daughter at Ghiana Ke Banger village in Punjab’s Batala on Friday.
In his complaint, Gurjinder Singh said that his daughter teaches at a private school. Since past few days, constable Gurjant, who is deputed at Batala, was following her and had even tried to stop her when she was on her way back from school.
“On Friday morning, Gurjant barged into our house with a packet of sweets and said that he wants to marry my daughter. When I refused the proposal, he got angry and took out a rifle from his car that was parked outside my house and asked me to call my daughter outside,” said the victim.
“When I denied, he opened fire at me but I was saved by my family members, who pushed me aside,” said Gurjinder. Hearing gunshot, the neighbours rushed to the house and caught the constable who was trying to flee. Accused is already married and is said to be having a matrimonial dispute.
Police have registered a case under Sections 307 (attempt to murder) and 452 (house-trespass after preparation for hurt, assault or wrongful restraint) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Sections 25/27/54/59 of the Arms Act against constable Gurjant Singh.
