Covid-19 patient dies outside hospital as authorities welcome Bihar minister Mangal Pandey

Patna, April 14, 2021:      A Covid-19 patient died outside a Patna hospital as the administration was busy welcoming Bihar Health Minister Mangal Pandey on Tuesday. The hospital allegedly refused to admit the patient at the time.

Health Minister Mangal Pandey was visiting the hospital for an inspection to see if the arrangements were proper for the treatment of Covid-19 patients. The incident took place at the Nalanda Medical Collage and Hospital (NMCH), one of the biggest government hospitals in the Bihar’s capital city.

Speaking to Bihar Tak, deceased’s son Abhimanyu Kumar said his father was Covid-19 positive and sick for the past four days.

 


"We went to AIIMS Hospital where the authorities said there was no bed available to admit new patient. Then we came to the NMCH. We stood outside the hospital for almost two hours appealing to the management to admit him. However, they did not admit him," Abhimanyu Kumar told Bihar Tak.

The man died on a stretcher outside the hospital.

Bihar has seen sharp spike in Covid-19 cases in recent days. Speaking to Bihar Tak, Health Minister Mangal Pandey said, “Every death is saddening. We all are working to save lives. Any such incident brings sorrow to the heart."

The minister said the health department was trying to give the best medical treatments to people suffering from Covid-19.
