New Delhi, Dec 10, 2020:    Taking note of the stigmatisation of Covid-19 patients on account of posters put up outside their homes while they are in isolation, the Supreme Court on Wednesday told states and Union Territories that they are not required to put up such signages unless ordered by the competent authority under the Disaster Management Act, 2005.

A bench of Justices Ashok Bhushan, R Subhash Reddy and M R Shah referred to a letter from the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) on November 19 which, it said, does not contain any requirement of pasting posters outside homes of patients. “We only observe that no State or Union Territory is required to paste posters outside the residence of COVID-19 positive persons, as of now. The State Governments and Union Territories can resort the above exercise only when any direction is issued by the competent authority under the Disaster Management Act, 2005,” the court said.
