DG Vanzara gets discharged by CBI court in Sohrabuddin encounter case

MUMBAI, Aug 1 2017 DH News: A special CBI court in Mumbai on Tuesday discharged former police officer D G Vanzara in the case involving the sensational encounter of Sohrabuddin Sheikh, a suspected gangster in November, 2005, in Ahmedabad.

Besides Vanzara, an IPS officer, who was then the chief of Anti Terrorism Squad of Gujarat police, M N Dinesh, an officer of the Rajasthan police, was discharged.

According to the CBI case, gangster Sohrabuddin Sheikh and his wife Kauser Bi were abducted by Gujarat ATS when they were on way from Hyderabad to Sangli in Maharashtra and killed in an alleged fake encounter near Gandhinagar in November 2005. Prajapati, a key witness in the alleged fake encounter, was killed by police at Chapri village, Banaskantha district of Gujarat, in December 2006.

BJP President Amit Shah had been discharged in the case earlier.
