Decompose body

The municipal staff noticed the body inside the water tank located in the 12th ward of the municipality when they opened it for cleaning.

Police identified the man as a 27-year-old from the nearby Hanuman Nagar area, who was mentally unsound. He had been missing since May 24, officials said.

The preliminary medical report suggests that the man died two to three days ago and some injury marks were also found on his body. Police said they are probing the case from different angles, including suicide and murder.

According to the locals, they have been consuming water from the tank and claimed a foul smell was emanating from it. The locals have demanded immediate action and a thorough investigation to prevent such occurrences in the future and to ensure the safety and quality of their drinking water.

In another instance in April, carcasses of 20 monkeys were found in a water tank in Nandikonda town of Nalgonda district.
