Delhi, Apr 07, 2017: A 50-metre deep cave used by criminals to hide stolen goods and conceal themselves from the police has been discovered in south Delhi’s Moti Bagh area, police said on Friday.

50-ft.jThe cave, located in a hilly area near Smriti Vatika Park in Moti Bagh Part 1, has two narrow entrances. But the inside, from where the police recovered laptops, mobile phones, television sets and expensive watches, is spacious.

“At one spot in the cave, as many as six people can sleep at once. It is dark and humid, but it helped the thieves hide and made sure they never got caught by the police,” Chinmoy Biswal, additional DCP (South), told HT.

The cave was discovered on the interrogation of six thieves who were arrested on Wednesday.

Police said the criminals would use the torch light of a mobile phone to move around inside. They would often have their meals there too, said the officer, and keep a stock of essential items to survive while on the run.
