New Delhi, Jan 24: The Delhi Police have suspended three cops who were seen beating a man in a video released by Arvind Kejriwal’s Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) as proof of police brutality.
Days after its protest against the Delhi Police, the party flagged the video with a message that asked Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde whether action would be taken against these policemen.
Watch the Video:
"Appropriate action will be taken if needed. The case will be investigated," said police chief BS Bassi.
The AAP said the footage was shot by a "vigilante" near Delhi’s Red Fort on January 12. It shows three uniformed men beating a man with a stick, pulling out his wallet and taking money from it. The police claim the man was a pick-pocket.
"Delhi police is known to be brutal. Every now and then we hear of stories about Delhi police’s brutality. Here is another such video. Not only does the video clearly show Delhi police’s inhuman behavior but also the urban legend of police extorting money is caught on camera," AAP said in its message.
Mr Kejriwal held a traffic-stopping 33-hour protest this week to demand action against Delhi Police officers who had refused to make arrests ordered by his ministers. The Chief Minister has blamed the force for rising crime in the capital and demanded that its control be transferred to the state government.
