Delhi to provide free Covid vaccination to all citizens above 18: CM Kejriwal

New Delhi, April 26, 2021:     The Delhi government has decided to provide free Covid-19 vaccinations to everyone above 18 years of age and an order of 1.34 crore doses has been placed for that purpose, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal announced on Monday. The Covid-19 vaccinations for all adults will be open from Saturday (May 1).

"Delhi government has decided to provide free vaccines to everyone above 18 years of age. Today we have given the approval for the purchase of 1.34 crore vaccines. We will make an effort to ensure that it is purchased soon and administered at the earliest to people," CM Arvind Kejriwal said in a virtual press conference.

 


Hitting out at the Centre over a higher price fixed for the states of the Covid-19 vaccines, Arvind Kejriwal said this is not the time to make profits.

Arvind Kejriwal said, "While one company has fixed vaccine prices for states at Rs 400 per dose, the other company is giving them at Rs 600 per dose, but the Centre would get them at Rs 150. This is not the time to make profits," Arvind Kejriwal said.

Serum Institute of India (SII), which manufactures the AstraZeneca-Oxford University vaccine under the brand name of Covishield, fixed the vaccine supply to state governments at the rate of Rs 400 per dose and to private hospitals at Rs 600 per dose.Covaxin, the Covid-19 vaccine manufactured by Bharat Biotech, will be available at a price of Rs 600 per dose for state governments and Rs 1,200 per dose for private hospitals.
