Nov 07, 2016: Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi Monday delivered the opening remarks at Congress Working Committee (CWC) meeting in New Delhi and lashed out at NDA government led by PM Narendra Modi. He said democracy, under the present dispensation, was going through one of its darkest hours.

“The Modi government is obsessed with power, it seeks to silence all those who disagree,” news agency ANI quoted him as saying. Gandhi, who is chairing the CWC meet for the first time in absence of Congress president Sonia Gandhi as she is reportedly unwell, said the civil society was being intimidated for asking questions in the name of national security.

“Asking questions is what discomforts this government, for they have no answers, we must expose their failures in upcoming Parliament session,” he added.

Speaking on the issue of One Rank One Pension (OROP), Rahul said the ex-servicemen were being treated callously by the government. Rahul also spoke on the recent I&B Ministry’s order to ban NDTV India for one day.

“TV channels are punished and asked to shut down. The opposition is being arrested for holding government to account,” he said. The CWC meet is crucial because winter session of Parliament will begin from November 16 and Congress will finalise its strategy for the same at the meet.
