Bangalore, April 26, 2013: Dharwad district superintendent of police Dr Ravi Kumar has been accused of making sexual advances towards his brother’s wife and harassing her for dowry.
“My husband’s brother Dr Ravi Kumar, the superintendent of police of Dharwad district, often behaved with me in a highly objectionable manner. He would make sexual advances towards me whenever my husband Kiran Kumar, a teacher, was away,” Chandana, a resident of Thimmalapura in Bhadravati taluk, told reporters here on Friday.
“Ravi Kumar would often find some pretext to meet me whenever I was alone. He would say he loved me and asked to me to cooperate with him,” she claimed.
She said her marriage with Kiran Kumar was finalised on May 4, 2012, and that she was taken to her husband’s brother’s house in Dharwad after sometime.
Replying to a question, she said she discussed the matter with her husband, but he said Ravi Kumar was his elder brother and she should listen to him and follow his instructions.
Kiran Kumar even harassed her physically when she protested and threatened that he would assault her father as well, she claimed.
“The local police have failed to take any action against the suspects even after 15 days since the complaint had been lodged. Ravi Kumar is using his influence to get away with his misdeeds. The police should take stern action against the suspects and Ravi Kumar should be suspended immediately,” she urged.
“I could no longer bear the torture and lodged a complaint with the Paper Town police in Bhadravati,” she said and accused her husband and others of having harassed her for dowry.
She mentioned the names of 12 persons in her complaint. Chandana’s parents Palakshappa and Jayamma were present at the press meet.
