Kolkata, Jan 16, 2020: Bengal BJP leader Dilip Ghosh, who often makes news for the party with his controversial remarks, has been reappointed as the Bengal BJP chief. Only recently did he say that Mamata Banerjee has failed to control CAA protesters like the BJP governments in UP and Assam, where they were shot like dogs.
Dilip Ghosh was on Thursday re-elected as the West Bengal BJP president in the run-up to the crucial and much-anticipated Bengal assembly elections in 2021. Dilip Ghosh was the only nominee for the post.
Dilip Ghosh’s appointment comes three days after he said, "Didi’s (Mamata Banerjee) police didn’t take action against the people who destroyed public properties as they are her voters. Our governments in UP, Assam and Karnataka have shot these people like dogs."
The remark not only earned him flak from Trinamool Congress and other opposition parties, but also colleagues from his own party such as Bengal MP Babul Supriyo, who was left red-faced by the claims.
Babul Supriyo called Dilip Ghosh’s remarks "very irresponsible". He said, "BJP, as a party has nothing to do with what a DIlipGhosh may hv said. It is a figment of his imagination & BJP Govts in UP, Assam hv NEVER EVER resorted to shooting people for whatever reason whatsoever. Very irresponsible of DilipDa to hv said what he said (sic)".
Ruling Trinamool Congress lodged two police complaints against Dilip Ghosh in Nadia and North 24 Parganas districts while he continued to defend his comments.
Reacting to the JNU violence and JNUSU president Aishe Ghosh’s video of her bleeding from the forehead, Dilip Ghosh had said a probe is needed to find out if she was really injured or faked it by using paints on her face.
